A.C.E. Program Overview

The Weed and Seed Program was introduced to Rapid City in 1997. The objective of this program was two-fold: #1, control crime and #2, improve the safety and appearance of the north side of Rapid City. Since our acceptance into the Weed and Seed Program in 2000, and being funded by the US Department of Justice in 2001, visible / positive changes have taken place in this small, yet valuable section of Rapid City.

Quality of life has progressively improved. Credit for this new 'mindset' is foremost, due to our Rapid City Police Department's attention to this area; namely a zero tolerance policy and their (successful) community policing efforts. Ultimately, safety and security conditions have improved significantly.

Various committees have also formed. Numerous meetings per month have given concerned citizens the opportunity to network with their neighbors, friends, and businesses that serve our area. Since the birth of numerous neighborhood watch and civic groups, camaraderie between home owners, service organizations and businesses has flourished.

The momentum is high in North Rapid. Hundreds of devoted and dedicated individuals have come forth to assist with the process of renovating their community. Sustainment is inevitable, although not without the (continued) attention of caring residents and businesses, let alone, support from the City of Rapid City. We intend to move forward as an entity called A.C.E., or Advocates for Community Enhancement.

Other groups from areas of Rapid City have come forth, seeking knowledge of how this program works and possible involvement with the Weed and Seed program. It is apparent that the entire City of Rapid City could benefit from the A.C.E. Program and the disciplines acquired through the Weed and Seed Program.

Moving forward, we intend to continue to work on current goals, including (but not limited to): raise funds for various projects, identify properties that need improvement, become a 'go to' entity for information and assistance, continue to support and encourage neighborhood groups to meet and work on community projects, assist the police department and City Council with various community projects, work / collaborate with city, county and state and coordinate committees for above.
