In August, we are proud to present a young individual who has demonstrated his caring attitude and volunteer commitment to our community. The award is presented to Ethan Fougner. Ethan is a young man who has made volunteering a way of life. He began volunteering in a nursing home at the age of 10 in Woonsocket. Now at the age of 16, he has given over 2000 volunteer hours and is still going strong. He currently volunteers for the Ronald McDonald House, Rapid City Regional Hospital and helps his neighbors out whenever someone needs a helping hand. After being named the top youth money collector for the Big Brothers Big Sisters Bowl For Kids Sake event twice, he decided to donate his grand prize, a mountain bike, back to Make A Wish Foundation in gratitude for all they have done for him. Ethan suffers from Neuro Fibromatosis and has undergone radiation treatments and just last week received wonderful news on his medical condition while at the Mayo Clinic. Ethan is the only son of Lynn and Sharon Fougner. They have lived in Rapid City since 1998 and Ethan is a student at Liberty Baptist Academy. His hobbies are rocketry, archery, reading and ceramics. Ethan recently was recognized for his outstanding efforts as the "Youth of Summer" for his work in helping to make Rapid City a better place to live. Ethan's mom says that "Ethan is a typical teenager, always on the go but always ready to help someone in need." We salute Ethan for his positive impact on our community and wish him continued good health and success. |
