Citizen of the Month!
November
2002

Congratulations to Dorothy Borelson!

November's Citizen of the Month is an individual that is known for her kindness and generosity to those in need. We are proud to present this Citizen of the Month award to Dorothy Borelson.

Dorothy Borelson is one of three children never married and has lived all of her life within thirty miles of Rapid City. She owned and ran her own ranch. Since 1994, Dorothy has sewn and donated over 200 quilts to the Western South Dakota Community Action Program. These quilts are given out free to low-income elderly. Because many of the elderly are on fixed incomes that usually have high medical bills and high prescription medicine, they end up cutting costs by turning down their heat. The quilts keep them warm and are greatly appreciated by those who receive them.

In 1995, Dorothy received the Good Neighbor Award from the Catalyst Club and is one of the founders of the Quilter's Club. Dorothy spends her time quilting for the elderly, the Quilter's Guild and her church. She has been quilting since she was in second grade and her barn, two garages, grainery and house are full of material to quilt.

Diane Garcia, Director of Services for Western South Dakota Community Action Program that nominated her says, "Dorothy is a humble, quiet, gentle spirited woman who makes a difference in the lives of many elderly people. We thank her for her kindness and generosity to those in need."
