Citizen of the Month!
November 2003
Congratulations to Leonard Carr!

The November, 2003 Citizen of the Month is an individual who year after year, demonstrates the meaning of volunteerism. The Citizen of the Month will be presented to Leonard Carr at the Rapid City Council Meeting on Monday, November 3, at 7 p.m. in the City/School Administration Center located at 300 6th Street.

Leonard Carr began helping with the annual Thanksgiving meal eighteen years ago. Since 1988, Leonard has personally cooked the turkeys for the traditional dinner for the Cornerstone Mission, baking twenty-four turkeys all within twenty-four hours. While he has a small crew to assist him, every year Leonard steps forward and personally heads up this special task for Thanksgiving, serving over 300 meals.

Jim Castleberry, Assistant Director of Cornerstone Mission notes that Leonard’s unfailing devotion to the needy is very worthy of this special recognition. “Leonard calls every year and asks to ‘sign him up’. We are very grateful for all he does to make this special Thanksgiving meal.”

Leonard has been a resident of Rapid City since 1953, widowed with five children, and is eighty-three years young. Leonard spent his “working” years in construction and remodeling. Leonard notes that this is a special project that is near to his heart and a high point of his holiday season.

Congratulations Leonard Carr on being the November, 2003 Citizen of the Month.
