For the month of March, the City is proud to present an individual who has continually demonstrated the desire to assist others – Mr. Wilbert Steinwandt. Wilbert has volunteered with the Black Hills Food Bank for the past fourteen years. He works an average of fifty hours a month to assist those individuals that are less fortunate in the community with food. Bill has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Black Hills Food Bank since 1992. His nominator indicates that Bill is one of those individuals that you can always can depend on to be there to assist at every turn, Over the past fourteen years, he has assisted with numerous community potato give a ways, the annual food drives and works closely with the non-profit agencies in the distribution of food. He has served on a number of advisory and trustee boards over the years and certainly has given back to the community and expects nothing in return. Bill and his wife Norma have lived in Rapid City for over fifty years. He retired from Sears after thirty-two years as manager of the Home Furnishings Department. Besides his involvement with the Food Bank, Bill and Norma are active members of South Canyon Baptist Church where they assist with their meals programs and help at Cornerstone Mission. |
