| In partnership with the Veterans Coordination Commission, we are pleased to present the February, 2005 Veteran of the Month – Robert P. King. Robert P. King left with the 109th Engineers of the National Guard for training on February 10, 1941. Following training, he was sent to Belfast, Ireland in May, 1942 and then on to Liverpool England, North Africa, Italy and Anzio Beachhead. Bob was discharged in 1945 and later joined the 196th Infantry Regiment of the National Guard in 1950 and discharged in 1952. He spent 642 days on the front line in WW II. He is a true advocate of the veteran’s rights and benefits “Standing Up for the Veteran” as a veteran and member of the community. Bob is a fifty-eight year member of the American Legion and a forty-five year member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars. He served as Post 1273 Commander for two years and also the Quarter Master for four years. Additionally, he is a member of Sean Squirrel of Military Order of Cooties. Bob has held several house committee positions at Post 1273 serving as State District 10 Commander for the VFW from Post 1273. He is deputy of volunteer services at the VA Hospital and Poppy Chairman of the House Committee. He is a volunteer at Ft. Meade and Hot Springs Veteran Homes. Bob lives in Rapid
City with his wife Emma of 59 years and they have three children –
Barbara Ripple, an EMT of Rapid City, Bob Jr., a teacher in Colorado
Springs, Colorado; and Ginger Nevstra, a teacher in Ventura, California.
