Congratulations to
Robert "Bob" W. Kerner

In partnership with the Veterans Coordination Commission, we are pleased to present the January, 2008 Veteran of the Month Recognition to Robert “Bob” W. Kerner.

Bob, originally from Newton, Illinois, joined the United States Air Force in 1961 and was sent to Lackland, AFB for basic training. He later attended jet engine mechanic training and continued in this career field during his entire Air Force tenure. He served at various Air Force Bases within the United States and overseas in Thailand and Korea. Bob’s last duty assignment was at Ellsworth AFB where he retired in December, 1983 with the rank of Master Sergeant.

Bob’s decorations include: Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award w/2 OLC, AF Good Conduct Medal w/1 Silver OLC, National Defense Service Medal, AF Longevity Service Award Ribbon w/r OLC, NCO Professional Military Education Graduate Ribbon, and Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon.

After Bob’s retirement, he was employed at Big “A” Auto Parts and worked part-time at the Base bowing alley from 1983 to 1994. In 1990, he started working at the South Dakota Cement Plant and retired in May, 2007. He is a life member of the Retired Enlisted Association and since his retirement, has expressed interest in working within the local organization. He is married to Lucille Wilken since 1963 and they have two daughters and one son.

Bob is a dedicated family man and a patriotic individual who has served his country with honor, pride and devotion.
