Welcome to Summer in Rapid City. The 2008 Program Guide is available in many locations around the community as well as on our web site at www.rcparksandrec.org. There are still lots and lots of programs and activities available for citizens of all ages. Check out the Program Guide for class descriptions, programs and activities happening in and around Rapid City this summer.

The 2nd Annual Black Hills Fat Tire Festival was held May 23-25, 2008 and was a great success. More than 600 individuals participated in the many rides, tours and races held during the Festival. The premier of the mountain biking movie "Seasons" was held at the Elks Movie Theater and enjoyed by more than 200 viewers. The First Annual Film Festival was also introduced this year. The eight winning movies received awards and were previewed on Saturday night at the Firehouse Brewery. Congratulations to everyone involved!

The City's new Dirt Jump Park, located behind Abourezk Law Office, survived the deluge of rain that washed through the area in May and is officially open for use by the public. A big Thank You goes out to the Black Hills Mountain Bike Association and its members who contributed funding and countless volunteer hours to make this park a reality. Great Job!

The 3rd Annual Rapid City Triathlon was held on Sunday, June 22, 2008 at the Horace Mann Pool where 90 athletes swam 800 meters, then biked 20 kilometers and finished the event by running 5 kilometers. The overall winner was Don Winart from Spokane, WA with a time of 1:06.56. Kara Flemming won the Women's Division with a time of 1:16.15.

From all of us here at Parks and Recreation, enjoy the summer and get out and PLAY!
