Transportation planning and its process has played an important role in the overall development and growth of the city of Rapid City and the surrounding area. This planning has resulted in the development of roads and highways for the safe and efficient movement of vehicular traffic.

The transportation planning process in the Rapid City metropolitan area includes the involvement of local, state and federal governmental agencies, and representative committees. This process results in the development of products and plans that assist in the overall development of the transportation planning process.
